Biography of Iain De Jong
Iain De Jong is a Managing Partner of OrgCode Consulting, Inc and a professor of social policy, community planning and housing in the Graduate Planning Program at York University.
Recognized as an international expert in homelessness, housing and social policy - and in
particular Housing First and Rapid Re-housing - the work Iain has led has received 16 prestigious national and international awards including Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Best Practice in Affordable Housing, United Nations World Habitat Awards Top 8 Housing Program, Institute of Public Administration of Canada's Gold Leadership Award for Most Innovative Municipal Program in Canada and a rare Honourable Mention for the Arthur Kroeger Award for impact on public policy in Canada. Prior to joining OrgCode, Iain spent 10
years working for the City of Toronto, five of which were in a senior management position spearheading the acclaimed Streets to Homes program, which housed more than 2,500 people and helped more than 90% remain housed. Iain has also worked for the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association, and as a community development worker in St. Lucia, Houston, Oakland and Rochester.
Now working with clients from Victoria to St. John's, Seattle to New York City, Whitehorse to Chattanooga, Iain is dedicated to ending homelessness and building capacity in local communities to achieve that goal. His recent projects include the Metro Vancouver homeless count, an evaluation framework for the Government of Alberta's 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness, a Comprehensive Housing and Homelessness Strategy for London, Ontario a Harm Reduction Strategy for London CAReS, leadership development in Goose Bay and Housing First redesign for the Department of Human Services in Washington, DC. Iain is also an ongoing Technical Advisor for the Capacity Building Center and the Homeless Research
